Onsite Wastewater Training Center

Introduction

The Tennessee Onsite Wastewater Training Center located on the Middle Tennessee Experiment Station in Spring Hill, TN is a vital component in the University's Center for Decentralized Wastewater Management (CDWM), which strives to support the decentralized wastewater management industry. The training facility includes a modern, comfortable conference room for meetings and training sessions, and more importantly, a set of displays of wastewater treatment systems.

Dr. John Buchanan instructs visitors at the onsite training facility.

Visitors must cross a bridge from the conference center to view the displays. While this bridge provides convenient access to the display area, it also symbolically represents the efforts of CDWM to connect the research and technology transfer needed to successfully manage the wastewater from homes and businesses that are not connected to centralized municipal sewer systems.

The bridge connects the conference room to the display area.

The displays demonstrate conventional wastewater disposal systems that are typical for most three-bedroom homes, including two styles of pre-cast concrete septic tanks, two methods of wastewater distribution in gravel filled trenches, two pressure distribution systems, and several options for filtering effluent.
